Clearing Stream entering Tyson Lagoon for increased
Amphibian Habitat

by Kevin Chow
Troop 124, Fremont, California

The project was to create a better ecosystem for the native amphibians. There were two goals for the project. The first was to clear out the overgrowth of plant and also ot clear the way for future maintenance. The second was to plant tules to keep the area from being overrun in the future. Now that the project is finished the area can regrow but in a way that's better for the ecosystem.

Blackberry bushes choking channel. Willow trees and cattails growing out of control

The project was done on August 19th and the 20th. The amount of hours spent doing the project was over 10. When we were finished we had a pile of debris about 4 feet high 10 feet long and 5 feet wide. My volunteers were; 8 boy scouts, 3 parents, and 4 of my little sisters friends. All of them were tremendous helpers and it's to their credit that the project was done, and that it was done well. When we were finished we had a pile of debris about 4 feet high 10 feet long and 5 feet wide.

Finishing touches on the new stream channel by planting tules.
