Usually a mining operation is an open pit, so you would remove the top
soil and then blast the rock face. Dynamite is cheap and does the job
very efficiently.
After the rocks are crushed by the blast then they are screened into
different sizes, depending on the needs of the nearby industry. Gravel
and pebble size is used in the construction industry; fine grained is
used in concrete industry; and larger pieces are used in the landscaping
business.
