Paleontologist Discovery Sandbox

Alex Spencer, Troop , Fremont

A recent addition to the museum is a Paleontologist Discovery Sandbox, built and set up by local Girl Scout Alex. She constructed the sandbox with oak and Douglas fir as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award Project. With the help of Dr. Joyce Blueford, Alex used expanding foam to secure real fossils to the base of the sandbox. In the discovery sandbox, visitors can brush away sediment to uncover these fossils, which include clams, cow bones, and a deer skull. The sandbox can be found along with related displays featuring the fossils of clams, sea and sun stars, and coral.
