On Day 1 of the project, we waited around 15 minutes for the scouts to arrive. We then collected the necessary paperwork and show them where the tools and work gloves were located. From around 9:15 AM to 10 AM, we cleaned the plant pots of any weeds and suckers. We then transported the plants up the hill, next to the designated area where they would be planted. Art then provided a demonstration for the scouts and adults on how to plant and mulch the trees. Following his example, the scouts and adults were split up into groups of two to dig each of the holes. By 12 PM, we had planted, mulched, and watered 11 5-gallon trees. We then had around a 45-minute lunch break where snacks and pizza were provided. A new set of scouts arrived after the lunch break to continue working where the other scouts left off. By around 3 PM, we had planted, mulched, and watered 6 15-gallon trees. We then decided to call it a day and return the following week to plant the rest of the plants. In total, we planted 17 trees on Day 1.
