My name is Aditya Kataria, and I am currently a Life Scout in Troop 273 based in Union City, California. On March 27, 2021, a group of scouts and myself worked together to plant over 35 trees in the hills near the Masonic Homes. The planning for this project started all the way back in January of 2021, and had to go through an extensive process to be approved as my Eagle project for the rank of Eagle. On the day of the project, the scouts and I worked together to haul the 36 oak, walnut, maple, laurel, and sycamore trees up the hill and plant them in the ground. None of this could have been done without the help of Dr. Blueford and Mr. Williams, who both assisted me greatly throughout the project. Today, those 36 trees will serve as a starting point for covering the rest of the land near Masonic Home, and will help transform the East Bay hills back to their natural glory.

I could not have done this project without the help of the scouts and adults who assisted in the project. The scouts were a combination of members from Troop 273 in Union City and Troop 220 in Fremont. Around 20 scouts came to help throughout the entire day, and all planted around 1-2 trees each. The adults also assisted greatly, by supervising the safety of the scouts and even pitching in a hand to help. At first, due to the hard ground, it seemed like it would not be possible to finish in one day. However, with the endless hard work of the scouts and adults, we were able to finish 30 minutes earlier than the expected time, with even more trees planted than expected. Overall, the scouts and adults of Troop 273 and Troop 220 have provided an invaluable contribution to the East Bay and the ecosystem as a whole.
