Constructing a Sprinkling and Irrigation System
by Nathan Lee

Troup 124, Fremont, California

I prepared an irrigation area, and constructed a sprinkler system for the Greenhouse and butterfly garden at Tule Ponds at Tyson Lagoon. Tule Ponds at Tyson Lagoon is located at 1999 Walnut Ave, Fremont, CA.  There are 3 ponds and one lake.
This wetland prevents parts of the City of Fremont from being flooded and is vital to nearby residential areas during major storms. I set up a sprinkler system in the greenhouse, a drip irrigation system across from the greenhouse, and a sprinkler system for the butterfly garden next to the drip irrigation. The greenhouse will be used to nurture small plants. When ready they will be transferred outside to the drip irrigation area across from the greenhouse for the next phase of development. When the plants are grown, they will be moved to Tule Ponds at Tyson Lagoon and other areas of Southern Alameda County. These plants will aid in the preservation of the wetland ecosystems in Fremont. The trees that are grown in the greenhouse will increase the habitat by providing housing and shade for the animals of Tule Ponds at Tyson Lagoon while also serving to attract a greater variety of insects and birds. The irrigation area will provide a constant flow of water to the larger trees. Meanwhile, the butterfly garden will allow both native and non-native butterflies to populate and thrive in Tule Ponds.

The greenhouse serves as a nursery for smaller plants. The irrigation area will allow trees to be planted and watered easily while the butterfly garden will provide a natural habitat for the butterflies that are in Fremont. The dimensions of the greenhouse are 149 inches by 129 inches. The height of the greenhouse is 101 inches total. The distance from the greenhouse to the nearby water supply is 67 feet. The irrigation area is 60 feet across from the greenhouse and approximately 90 feet by 40 feet. The butterfly garden is at least 90 feet long.
