TULE PONDS AT TYSON LAGOON
GOING BACK THROUGH TIME

April 25 (Saturday)

learn about native plants and animals in Fremont

Families can see how the environment looked like when the Ice Age mammals roamed the area.  The trees and shrubs at Tule Ponds are native and evidence goes back as far as the Ice Age.  Also see different artifacts of the Ohlone Native Americans that used these waters to fish and the trees and shrubs to eat.  Gather around the Tule Hut and make Tule dolls just like a child would have 300 years ago.

Look at displays of the native animals and enjoy a few hours going back when nature was our only entertainment.  Please remember no bikes, strollers, or pets.  Please pre-register so all you need to do is check in when you arrive.  Feel free to walk around or join one of our hour guided tours  (1:00 pm and 3:00 pm - meet in the classroom).

Activities for the family to learn about nature:

  •  Make a flip book of native plants (leave identification)

  • Make a tule doll like the Native Americans did long ago

  • Headbands of native animals

  • See butterflies and moths in different stages of growth

  • Walk around the facility to see evidence of spring

  • Make a habitat dioarama of Tule Ponds including models of some of the organisms that live in the area
