Building Raised Beds in Butterfly Meadow

Troop 269, Fremont

The work group cooperated to construct and install four planter boxes in Tule Ponds at Tyson Lagoon.  To construct the planter boxes, we measured and cut twelve-foot ChoiceDek outdoor composite boards into eight- and four-foot sections.  In addition, we measured and cut two- by six-inch pressure-treated wood into ten-inch sections.

The composite boards were used as the sides of the four-foot by eight-foot rectangular planter boxes; the ten-inch pressure-treated sections were used to anchor the corners of said boxes.  Everything was assembled using Grabber Guard Premium Quality Exterior Screws.

The group then proceeded to install the planter boxes, digging into the ground as necessary to ensure that they were level.  To complete the project, we staked the boxes in place, filled them with soil, and spread new mulch around the project area."

I would like to thank Lowes (43612 Pacific Commons Blvd., Fremont) for supplying the ChoiceDek composite boards at a discounted pric
