Sedimentologists are a specific group of geologists who study sedimentary rocks and how they form. Most rocks that you find on the surface of the Earth are sedimentary rocks. They study rocks on the land and rocks that are forming. Geologists map the different type of rocks and can explain how the rocks were deposited. Sedimentary rocks that are in the process of forming can be found at the bottom of oceans, deltas, and lakes. They look at sediment cores to determine how the process of sedimentation produces these rocks.
