Dr.
Rahman is a Hydrologist, a specialized geologist who studies the movement of
water. He has been a local college professor of Geology for many years, most
presently at Ohlone College.
He also works in developing countries trying to make water clean for villages.
Dr. Rahman's talk and demonstrations will center on how you can clean sewage in remote villages. His work is mainly in Pakistan and India.
A hydrologist is a type of geologist that studies
the
science of
rivers,
aquifers, and flow of water both on the surface and under the ground. In the Bay Area understanding how the movement
of water changes as earthquakes continually reshape the ground is an
important factor to supply the growing population. Hydrologists need to
understand three main fields of science: Sedimentology, seismology, and
geophysics.
· A sedimentologist studies the surface rocks and how they get deposited to form underground deposits and areas where water can be stored.
·
A
seismologist
investigates earthquakes, volcanoes and plate tectonics to see the effects
on the areas and humans.
· A geophysicist looks at the physics of earth processes from fluid dynamics to magnetism and how the earth reacts to different stresses both internal and from space.
