Jan. 20

M-01Magnetism- Students learn about magnetism by playing with magnets.  They will learn the words Repel and Attract.

Jan. 27

M-02 Electricity- Students will learn about electrons and how electricity is brought to our homes.

Feb. 3

M-03 Light Movements -Parent and child explore how light moves.  Key words children will learn are Reflect and Refract.

Feb. 10

M-04 Simple Machines- Exploring different simple machines by playing with inclined plane, lever, and wheel.

Feb. 17

M-05 States of Matter- Students will discover properties of water while discovering states of matter.  How to present three states of matter of water. Students will learn the word liquid, solid, and gas. 

Feb. 24

M-06 Shapes of Clouds- Students will investigate how water produces clouds while analyzing how clouds are formed.  Learn to see shapes of high and low clouds.  Students will learn words like cumulus and cirrus.

Mar. 2

M-07 Elements of Weather- Students will investigate the different types of weather. The will learn the difference between rain, snow, hail, and sunshine.

Mar. 9

M-08 Constellations- Students will explore patterns in the sky that make constellations. Students will learn about the big and little dipper. Class includes tour to Miller Planetarium.

 Mar. 16

M-09 Stars- Students will learn about the two gases that stars are composed of hydrogen and helium Explore the red giants, blue dwarfs, and the massive supernovas of our universe.

Mar. 23

M-10 Planets- Learning how to compare and contrast different plants.  Students will learn the difference between terrestrial planets and gas giants.

M-11 Sorting Rocks- Students will learn how to sort rocks by environment. They will learn words like shiny, smooth, and hard.

Apr. 6

M-12 Fossils Rocks- Students will learn about sedimentary rocks. They will learn that fossils are only found in sedimentary rock. 

Apr. 13

M-13 Igneous Rocks- Your student will learn that volcanoes produce different rocks. They will learn the difference between plutonic and volcanic rocks.

Apr. 20

M-14 Colors of Minerals- Students will investigate different minerals and explore their colors.

Apr. 27

M-15 Earthquake- The Hayward Fault is less than two miles away. Your students will learn necessary steps to protect themselves when a earthquake is happening.

May. 4

M-16 Bones- Understanding that fossil bones, animal bones, and human bones are alike can be difficult for a child. Students will learn the difference between fossilized bones and non-fossilized bones.

May. 11

M-17 Exploring Land and Environments- Students will explore land and marine environments. Students will also discover where organisms live.

May. 18

M-18 Marine. Your students will learn the difference about animals that live on land and about animal that live. The will learn words like reptile, amphibians, and mammals.

M-19 Who eats whom- Students will learn what animals eat what. Students will be introduced to words like carnivore and herbivore.

June 1

M-20  Special Tule Ponds at Tyson Lagoon – Learning science in nature (meet at 1999 Walnut Ave)

























These classes are designed to show parents how to take simple objects and turn them into experiences.  Basic science skills at this age include discovery and describe.  Parent and child will learn how to explore and not to just define the principle to the child.  Critical thinking is important in science.
