J-01Magnetic Mania-
It can be difficult for a child to understand magnetism,
attraction, and repel. Students will explore principles of
magnetism and investigate that the earth is one huge magnet.
Class includes a variety of hands-on instruments so your child
gets a better understanding of this unique topic.

Feb. 4
|
J-02 Electrical Wizards-
Electrons is the flow of electricity. Jr. Scientist’s will
differentiate current electricity vs static electricity.
Experiments will include engineering a series and parallel
circuits.

Feb. 11
|
J-03 Brighten Your Light-
Light is a part of the electromagnetic wave spectrum visible
to the human eye. Students will explore how light moves by
experimenting with photons.
At the end of this course, your student will learn how
light is refracted, diffracted, and reflected.

J-04 Simple Machines-
Exploring different simple machines by playing with inclined
plane, lever, and wheel.

Feb. 25
|
J-05 States of Matter-
In this course, your junior scientist will dissect the
different states of mater. Experiments will include
investigating water in its three states of matter.

Mar. 3
|
J-06 Weather Wiz Kids-
Students will investigate how water produces clouds while
analyzing how clouds are formed. Children will learn to
identify the four different types of clouds and explore the
types of weather they produce.

Mar. 10
|
J-07 The Law of Weather-
Students will investigate the different types of weather.
Explores will learn the difference between rain, snow, hail,
and sunshine. They will also learn to understand weather and
seasons have very little to do with each other.

|
J-08 Constellations-
Depending on your location on earth will determine what
constellations you are able to see in the nighttime sky. Class
includes planetarium tour where your child will learn to
identify constellations.

|
J-09 Stars-
Students will learn about the two gases stars are composed of
hydrogen and helium. Students Explore the red giants, blue
dwarfs, and the massive supernovas of in our mysterious
universe.

J-10 Planets-
Learning how to compare and contrast different plants.
Students will learn the difference between terrestrial
planets and gas giants. The students will also construct a 3-D
solar system.

|
J-11 Sorting Rocks-
Students will learn how to sort rocks by environment.
Vocabulary terms include sedimentary, metamorphic, igneous and
lithosphere. They will learn how to identify rocks by
characteristics.

April 14
|
J-12 Jr. Geologists-
Students will learn that fossil bones are only found in
sedimentary rocks. Class will include experiments that help
students to identify minerals by looking at their properties.

April 21
|
J-13 Igneous Rocks-
Junior Scientist will learn that volcanoes produce volcanic
and plutonic rocks. Students will dissect a volcano and learn
which rocks are cooled inside the magma chamber and which
rocks are cooled on the outside of the volcano
|
April 28
|
J-14 Mineralization At a Glance-
Students will investigate different minerals and explore their
colors. Students will leave with a periodic table poster and a
better understanding of the elements that make up the world.

J-15 Seismologic Party-
The Hayward Fault is less than two miles away. Students will
discuss plate tectonics and the Earth’s lithosphere. The class
will also focus on
earthquake preparedness and safety (meet at 40204 Paseo Padre
Pkwy)

May 12
|
J-16 Vertebrate and other Bones- Understanding that fossil bones, animal bones, and human bones
are alike can be difficult for a child. Students will learn
the difference between fossilized bones and non-fossilized
bones. They will also compare human bones to bones of other
animals.

May 19
|
J-17 Exploring Land and Environments-
Junior scientist will begin to explore geography and different
types of landscapes. Vocabulary words will include lagoon,
plateau, lake, and bay.

May 26
|
J-18 Who eats whom-
Students will learn the importance of the food chain. Lessons
will include exploring decomposer in their natural
environment.

June 2
|
J-19 Environmental Engineer-
Students will learn what animals eat . Students will be
introduced to words like carnivore and herbivore. (Meet at
1999 Walnut Ave.)
|
June 9
|
J-20 California Nursery Historical Park Tour-
This class will be a tour of the California Nursery Historical
Park. The tour will include access to the nursery museum,
Vallejo adobe, and more information on the history of this
historical site.
